The Bushwackers perform regularly around the country playing at Festivals and in venues. In 2022 they performed at The Port Fairy Folk Festival, The National Celtic Festival, The Tamworth Country Music Festival, The Gympie Music Muster, The Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival and many other events. The Bushwackers have a multi-generational appeal with three generations often coming to shows together to enjoy the music, the dancing, the humour and the stories.
The band is five-piece featuring lead singer Dobe Newton on Lagerphone and vocals and guitarist-songwriter Roger Corbett, joined by fiddle, guitars bass and drums. The Bushwackers have released 26 albums, 6 Books, won three Golden Guitar Awards and were inducted into the prestigious Roll Of Renown in Tamworth in 2021.
The Bushwackers songs encompass bush music classics (The Ryebuck Shearer and Flash Jack from Gundagai etc) and more contemporary songs like the iconic, ‘I Am Australian’ (co-written by Dobe Newton)’ Beneath The Southern Cross’, ‘Henry’s Men’, ‘The Ballad of 1891’ and more recently ‘Diggin’ For Gold’ ‘This Little Town’ and the ‘Good Old Days’ speak of Australia today and relate to the Australia of old.
A major feature of The Bushwackers is their classic instrumental music used in their shows around Australia for Bush Dancing and ‘The Bushwackers Dance Album’, Dance books and songbooks are used all over Australia to promote bush dancing.
